Assistive Technology and How It Has Helped Me
I have always been blind ever since I can remember as I got diagnosed when I was a child and lost my eyesight to irreversible eye damage. It has always been tough but thanks to assistive technology, everything these days is as simple as am seeing. There is a lot that has been advanced, and now I can use my computer easily, and I can even use my phone like I can actually see.
This is one of the best things that has ever happened o me, and I do not feel like I am physically challenged anymore with this technology. Assistive technologies for physically challenged people are one revolution in science that couldn’t have come at a better time. Sometimes I also want to come up with something that can help anyone who has any disability because I know first hand how hard it is to get around and even to be accepted by the society.
Now, however, things are easy, and you do not need much to afford these gadgets or apps that you can install and use easily. I have always had problems expressing myself, but now I think am confident enough to take on anything in my way thanks to this technology.
There are a lot of assistive technologies that are around, and they have become affordable and readily available for people with any disabilities. One of the breakthroughs in this industry that has revolutionized a lot is the Dot. This is a wearable watch that lets me keep tabs on everything on my phone. It is basically like the standard smartwatches, but it is used by blind people as it is the world’s first Braille Smartwatch.
The fact that it is also cheap is another reason that I find it great. The app called Talkitt is another revolution that can’t go unnoticed as it helps people who have a speech impairment. This app will translate those unintelligible words that anyone with the problem of speech has and translate it into understandable words by the person reading it.
This is one of the best apps around
There is also this app called Weight Watchers that lets you keep tabs on how your health state is. This is a genuinely great app as it allows you to know how much weight you have lost. Staying healthy is important, and this is exactly what this app helps with.
Another innovation that I can’t forget is the sesame Phone. Yes, this is a touch-free Smartphone that can be used by people with disabilities. Anyway, my eyesight problem has always been something that I have struggled with but the fact that I can get by with almost anything thanks to this assistive technologies. I have found the Finger Reader to be of most help to me. This is because this simple device helps me read text that isn’t even in Braille.
It is a wearable device that is just comfortable and helpful as far as anyone with visual impairment is concerned. It tells me when am at the end of a line or when am at the beginning of one. It has a small camera that scans the text and gives an audio feedback. This helps me read anything either on books or my tablet. It is an amazing piece of technology that I am grateful for. The fact that I can read some of the best books without having to look for audio books or a Braille version is why I find this helpful.
Being not able to see is one of the hardest things that one can go through but with this device, can read anything that I want because I have always loved books for as long as I can remember. The fact that these devices are also made to be affordable is something that I appreciate a lot, and anyone with some money can invest in one, and there is no regret after that.
These other types of assistive technologies that I have shared have also helped a lot, and I read them using the Finger Reader that I have had for close to a year now. This means that any disability may not be eliminated, but life can be made easier for anyone that is disabled in any way.
